My Gut Feeling Open Call for Canadian Researchers
$100,000 research grant program on quality of life
In keeping with our mission to support the patient community directly, we are thrilled to announce our First MGF Funded Research Grant.
Thanks to the support of Daiichi Sankyo Canada as well as funds raised, we are granting two $50,000CAD projects with the goal that there is a direct impact on improving the quality of life for patients, survivors and caregivers.
The grants are available for research teams across Canada.
Purpose - To support high-quality research that improves quality of life for individuals affected by gastric cancer, while fostering the development and career advancement of early-career researchers
Amount: Up to $50,000 per project
Deadline: Applications are due Monday, September 21, 2026 (midnight ET)
Announcement of Winning Applications: Monday, November 2, 2026
Allowable expenses: Expenses necessary for conducting the research (ICES analyst/ICES expenses/Pilot data/establishment of teams/systematic reviews)
Funds: Any unspent funds as at November 1, 2027 will be returned to the MGF Funding pool of funds for future seed funding competitions. The proposed budget must be strictly adhered to and funding can be spent on allowable expenses only
Eligibility Criteria:
Principal Investigator must be affiliated with a Canadian Institution
Preference will be given to early-career investigators (within 10 years of first academic appointment)
Pan Canadian multi-multidisciplinary collaboration is encouraged
Patient engagement strategy mandatory
Scoring:
Quality of Proposal 30% Quality of patient engagement 20% External Impact 20% Quality of Team 10% Feasibility 10% Impact for Junior Faculty (i.e. Assistant Professor, first 10 years of appointment, Post-doctoral fellow) 10%
*Scorers will be advised that leadership or engagement by junior investigators should be part of the team structure. Scorers will be advised that patient engagement should be part of the proposal/team structure.

Letter of support from Team are welcome (if applicable)
